When visiting Japan and taking a taxi with your counterpart, there is a specific seating order to follow.
The most important person sits behind the driver, for safety.
The second ranking person (probably you) would take the other window, followed by the third in the middle.
An assistant will sit in the front and will usually cover the cost of the fare.
